running silently with scissors

I apologize for not posting for nearly a month. On the one hand, I know that hardly anyone ever visits my site ... but that's not really the point. I really like posting stuff here, even if I know that only a handful of people will ever see it. My last month has been pretty busy, and there are dozens of things that I should have posted ... but I just haven't been in the mood. I've been a little out of sorts, I guess. I've been doing my best to enjoy the summer on a limited budget, so let me try to get you caught up...
On June 25th I caught Jamie Cullum's concert at the House of Blues in Atlantic City. It was rough driving back late that Sunday night (for work bright and early at 8 on Monday) -- but it was totally worth it. The concert was awesome, and was totally worth my sleep-deprived zombie-like haze at work the next day. Cullum is an amazing talent and puts on an excellent live show -- catch him if you ever have the chance.
On July 1st I went to a Somerset Patriots minor-league baseball game with my younger bro and my mom. I'm not a sports fan, but managed to have a good time nonetheless. Even though I hate baseball ... and pretty much all sports in general, I really enjoy the atmosphere of an occasional baseball game. That and the promise of funnel cake will almost guarantee my occasional attendance.
My birthday (July 5th) this year was pretty good ... definitely better than last year's. Last year my birthday fell on a Tuesday, which meant I had to work from about 8AM to 10PM. It's rough when you work at a weekly newspaper and your birthday falls on the only day that you can't skip out early... But all in all it was a good day. Pretty low key and simple; a prefect way to mark the beginning of my 26th year on this planet. Damn, I'm ridiculously old.
I've been playing the role of amateur photographer lately. Check out some pictures of this year's sunflowers, the depressing fall of the old Flemington movie theater, another trip to Ringing Rocks state park, sitting for an hour on the 4th because people had the nerve to go see fireworks, etc.
I've also been reading for once. Since I graduated in '02 with a bachelors in English, I've maintained a pretty steady [read: pathetic] 1 book per year average. But I've been hooked on Augustin Burroughs for the last week and a half. I polished off Running With Scissors in a few days, and I'm about 3/4 the way through Dry. Running with Scissors is being released as a film soon ... and while writing this entry I just found Borroughs' official site ... so I'm cutting off the entry a little shorter than planned to go check it out.
Hopefully I'll post more soon. But rest assured that if I don't, there'll be another long post like this one in another month. :)
