welcome to my brothas
Posted on Monday, May 28, 2007

Thanks in part to Verizon's new Unlimited Messaging plan, Twitter, and mobile Blogger, my brothers have joined the ranks of the bloggers. Please check out Kevin's "Kev's Amazing Blog" and Chris' "Chris' Blog." Yes... both names lack some creativity, but their content [occasionally] proves amusing.

My site is still the best :)

complete redesign
Posted on Monday, May 28, 2007

Welcome to the newly redesigned Some Crazy Garbage.com! Let me point out a few cool features...

While all of the content that you have have enjoyed over the last (nearly) two years will remain in this -- the main blog area, I have now added two additional blogs. The first, a Photoblog, appears directly to the right. My Photoblog is powered by both Flickr and Blogger, and contains a sampling of my Flickr.com photos. Traditionally, my photos find their way to Flickr via my digital camera and a group upload from my memory card to Flickr.com. But now, I can also take advantage of Flickr.com's remote upload via cellphone and blog posting ability, to actually take a photo with my cellphone and upload to Some Crazy Garbage.com directly.

Below the Photoblog is my FollowMe section, which is powered by Twitter.com and FeedSweep. Twitter is a great site that can be updated via cellphone text message, IM, or directly via their site. What is Twitter? I'll let them explain it... "Twitter is a community of friends and strangers from around the world sending updates about moments in their lives. Friends near or far can use Twitter to remain somewhat close while far away. Curious people can make friends. Bloggers can use it as a mini-blogging tool." FeedSweep has allowed me to customize my Twitter RSS feed into JavaScript, so I can let you know exactly what I am doing ... whenever I feel that it's important enough to tell you. If you join Twitter, add me as a friend!

Some Crazy Garbage now features three RSS feeds. You can subscribe to my main feed, my Photoblog feed, or my Twitter feed. Stay connected to me with your favorite RSS feed reader, or my favorite way, with Firefox's Live Bookmarks. With so much content, you'll quickly know more about me than I do.

If you see anything that isn't working properly, please let me know. I think that I've worked out all of the bugs ... but you never know! But overall, I hope that you enjoy it -- I'm really proud of Some Crazy Garbage.com's latest incarnation!

Female sharks 'can give birth without mating'

The discovery could have solved a mystery which has baffled experts studying the species in captivity.

An international team of researchers based in Northern Ireland and the United States made the breakthrough after a hammerhead shark gave birth without mating with a male.

No traces of any paternal DNA were detected in the offspring.

The researchers, from Queen's University Belfast, the Guy Harvey Research Institute at Nova Southeastern University in Florida, and Henry Doorly Zoo in Nebraska, found evidence that sharks can reproduce asexually by the unusual parthenogenesis method.

The national "Click It or Ticket" mobilization will run from mid-May until June 3 with the goal to reduce fatalities and injuries by enforcing seat-belt laws. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that 7,000 people are killed and 100,000 are injured each year because they fail to buckle up. The national use rate has risen from 14 percent in the late 1970s to 84.2 percent today, but some people, such as New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine, still don't buckle up and pay the price with serious injuries and even death.

in support of a friend
Posted on Monday, May 07, 2007

My good friend and coworker, Nancy Blake, will be participating in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® on Sunday, May 13th, in Philadelphia. Nancy is a breast cancer survivor and one of the strongest people that I know. Her unwavering determination in the fight against her cancer is truly inspiring.

Please join me in supporting Nancy and daughters, Kristin and Jennifer, as they walk to raise money for cancer research!

From Nancy's Race Site: "Join my fight by supporting our efforts with a pledge contribution. The money raised through the Race will fund vital education, screening and treatment programs for women in our community and support the national search for a cure. We need your support! Every step counts!"

you're too late
Posted on Wednesday, May 02, 2007

I always thought the lyrics to Bon Jovi's hit, You Give Love a Bad Name were "Shot through the heart / and you're too late" ... but last night's American Idol taught me that the lyrics are actually "Show through the heart / and you're to blame." As a New Jerseyan, it's probably blasphemy for me to admit that -- and even worse -- to say that I hate Bon Jovi. While I'm at it ... I hate Bruce Springsteen too. Maybe that's why I'm only 69% New Jersey.

Here's the real question ... Is it more embarrassing for me to have gotten the lyrics of such a famous song wrong for 21 years, or for a single, 26 year old guy to regularly watch American Idol? And wasn't Blake's performance awesome?
