Kucinich questions Bush's mental health
PHILADELPHIA - Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich questioned President Bush's mental health in light of comments he made about a nuclear Iran precipitating World War III.
"I seriously believe we have to start asking questions about his mental health," Kucinich, an Ohio congressman, said in an interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer's editorial board on Tuesday. "There's something wrong. He does not seem to understand his words have real impact."
Kucinich, known for his liberal views, trails far behind the leading candidates in most Democratic polls. He was in Philadelphia for a debate at Drexel University.
Bush made the remarks at a news conference earlier this month.
He said: "I've told people that if you're interested in avoiding World War III, it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them (Iran) from having the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon."
Kucinich said he doesn't believe his comments about the president's mental health are irresponsible, according to a story posted on the newspaper's Web site.
"You cannot be a president of the United States who's wanton in his expression of violence," Kucinich said. "There's a lot of people who need care. He might be one of them. If there isn't something wrong with him, then there's something wrong with us. This, to me, is a very serious question."
In response, Republican National Committee spokesman Dan Ronayne said it was hard to take Kucinich seriously. link |

Posted on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 From: Reuters Cheney and Obama are distant cousins: Mrs. Cheney
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - There's no sign of a family reunion planned, but U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney and Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama are distant cousins.
So says the vice president's wife, Lynne Cheney, who said she discovered that her husband of 43 years is eighth cousins with the senator from Illinois.
The two men could hardly be more different. Cheney is an advocate for pursuing the war in Iraq to try to stabilize the country, while Obama wants to get U.S. troops out of Iraq.
Mrs. Cheney told MSNBC on Tuesday that it was "an amazing American story that one ancestor ... could be responsible down the family line for lives that have taken such different and varied paths."
The common ancestor was Mareen Devall, who the Chicago Sun-Times said was a 17th century immigrant from France.
Mrs. Cheney said she discovered the link through family research for her new book, "Blue Skies, No Fences," about growing up in Wyoming. link |

tabby's place
Posted on Thursday, October 11, 2007
I've been volunteering at Tabby's Place in Ringoes, NJ every Wednesday morning for the last month and a half.
Tabby's Place is a cage-free sanctuary that provides refuge to cats in hopeless situations. Our residents come primarily from public shelters where they had once been scheduled for euthanasia. This one-of-a-kind facility serves asAn Adoption Center, finding loving homes for cats; A Hospital, providing medical and surgical treatment for sick or injured residents; A Hospice, providing palliative care and a warm, loving environment for chronically or terminally ill cats to live out their lives in comfort.
fingers crossed. please, please, please!!!

The Nobel Peace Prize, which will be announced Friday in Oslo, Norway, doesn't normally play a significant role in U.S. presidential politics.
But the possibility that former Vice President Al Gore might take the prize has some Gore supporters buzzing that the 2000 Democratic Party nominee for president might be convinced to take the plunge once again.
Gore and Canadian Inuit activist Sheila Watt-Cloutier, who were jointly nominated for the prize for their work on climate change, have been identified as likely winners by Nobel handicappers. If they win, Gore supporters say, it could spur the former vice president to make a late entry into the presidential race.
"Winning a Nobel Peace Prize is a life changing event," said Dylan Malone, who runs a Web site called AlGore.org, which advocates a Gore presidential run. "If he wins (the Nobel), he will undoubtedly reassess the situation and think, 'Where do I go next?' He's done the slideshow, made the movie, won every accolade that our society has to give. There's nowhere else to go to take it to the next level in my mind."
psycho alert!
Posted on Thursday, October 11, 2007 Meet Shirley Katz. She's an English teacher at a high school in Medford, Oregon. And, oh yeah, she wants to BRING A GUN TO SCHOOL. She's afraid that her ex-husband could show up and try to hurt her, or that there could be a Columbine-style shooting.
You cannot yell "fire" in a crowded movie theater, because it could cause a stampede that would result in bodily harm. There are limits to our Constitutional rights. If crazy Katz can take a gun to school, there is a serious and avoidable risk of bodily harm.
Katz says that the safety plan at her school is antiquated and unacceptable. "Our safety plan at our school now is that if somebody threatening comes in, you try to avoid eye contact, and do whatever they say." So how about a better safety plan? How do you get from that point to a teacher with a gun?!
This case is ridiculous. Katz is wasting taxpayer money by suing her school. A teacher that is so willing to put her students in danger ... should not be a teacher. The school should fire her, and she should lose her teacher certificate. What do you think? link |
